Sant Esteve

Cala Sant Esteve ("Saint Stephen's Cove) is situated 2.5 km from Es Castell, flanked by the Fort Marlborough and Saint Philip's Castle (Castell de Sant Felip) which was highly important for the defense of the harbour of Mahón.
Cala Sant Esteve is a large s-shaped sea inlet with only a few family homes and nice views.

Below these rocks there is a sophisticated labyrinth of tunnels supporting the Saint Philip's Castle at the other side of the cove.

You can get acquainted with the history of Fort Marlborough, built by the British between 1710 and 1716, in the museum of Saint Philip.

The inner area of Es Castell provides a clear idea of its military origins. It has access to the sea via three coves:

The Stuart Tower, whose name was later changed to Torre d‘en Penjat meaning the Hangman's Tower after the hill where the convicts from Saint Philip's Castle were executed, is located in Binissaida de sa Torre between Cala Sant Esteve and Cala Rafalet some 150 metres from the sea.

Cala Sant Esteve has an orientation toward northeast and the wind is moderate which provoques a strong swell.

Marine and underwater conditions:

This cove provides good conditions for anchoring boats (although the manoeuvre is difficult due to the large number of boats anchored in the interior).

At the entrance there is a flagstone known as the Llosa de sa Punta de Migjorn.

Normally, there are plenty of fisherboats in the area.

Walking to Cala Alcaufar
