Llucmaçenes

The village of Llucmaçenes is one of the most coveted urban Menorcan areas for its tranquility. If you are a nature lover, this is your place to be.

Well, Einstein said, the everything is relative -
so this "tranquility" certainly does not show during the summer festivals in honour of the village patron saint, Sant Gaietà (Saint Cajetan).
During the first weekend of August, intense festivities are going on Llucmaçenes.

On this photograph you can see the so-called Geganters de Llucmaçenes, the "giants".

And ...

during carnaval quietness is also foreign to the people of Llucmaçenes:

The most representive monument of this village is its neo-Gothic church built in 1885.

Llucmaçenes is characterised by its whitewashed houses, its many paths and trails and its natural environment.

The name comes from the Roman words lucus = wood and matiana = apple.
